Teceo provides energy savings of nearly 75% while providing a more welcoming and safer landscape
Lagos, on the Atlantic coast in the south of Portugal, is the historic centre of the Portuguese Age of Discovery. It is also one of the most visited cities in the Algarve region thanks to its variety of tourist-friendly beaches, restaurants and hotels and is renowned for its vibrant summer nightlife.
In 2014, the city council decided to replace the lighting on Avenida Dos Descobrimentos (Discoveries Avenue), the city’s busiest avenue which runs along the seafront to the marina.
The luminaires (fitted with 250/300W high-pressure sodium lamps) at that time were 30 years old and did not enrich the surroundings of this picturesque area.
The council wanted to create a more welcoming and safer ambiance to boost tourism and local business while reducing its energy consumption and carbon footprint.
After receiving EU funding to implement an energy efficient solution, they opted for the Teceo luminaire. The sleek design of this modern luminaire harmoniously integrates the landscape and its’ high performance ensures that the avenue is perfectly lit with a significant reduction in energy consumption.
In fact, the Teceo, fitted with 48 LEDs (78W) will enable the city to generate energy savings of nearly 75% while providing a comfortable and safe environment for tourists and residents to take full advantage of this dynamic area at night.
