Olhão’s Smart Lighting System

Aesthetic smart lighting to create safe, secure and comfortable urban spaces in a sustainable way

Known for its market and its famous Seafood Festival, Olhão is probably the Algarve town that has developed the most in recent years, the result of strong private and public investment. With the construction of a new marina, a five-star hotel and the modernisation of dozens of restaurants, Olhão is now a cosmopolitan, prosperous and vibrant city.
Urban regeneration to create attractive spaces

Adding to this dynamic, the local authorities have also redeveloped several areas including Avenida 5 de Outubro and Avenida 16 de Junho, as well as Jardim do Pescador and Jardim Patrão Joaquim Lopes, by building new car parks and installing new street furniture to create more accessible and attractive public spaces for residents and the thousands of tourists who visit each year.
LED lighting to create safe and comfortable spaces after dark

A good urban regeneration project is not complete without good lighting to make the area accessible during the hours of darkness and to encourage people to use its facilities and visit its attractions after nightfall. With this in mind, Olhão City Council wanted urban lighting that combined aesthetics and performance to create safe and comfortable spaces for people.
Versatile lighting solutions for different landscapes

With a versatile portfolio of urban lighting solutions, Schréder was able to deliver the perfect luminaire for each of the different landscapes.

With a design inspired by the elegant Calla Lily flower, the CALLA LED was ideal for the newly landscaped public gardens. With its refined design and indirect lighting system, it ensures maximum comfort and safety for people of all ages who wish to spend time there and enjoy the facilities.

TERRA MIDI LED floodlights, PONTO floodlights and ENYO floodlights shine a light on the unique features of the gardens.

SHUFFLE columns and AMPERA luminaires have been used to illuminate the streets of Avenida 5 de Outubro, Avenida 16 de Junho and the car parks to deliver a quality light that will maximise safety with long-lasting performance.

The public artwork of “waves”, built on the roundabout connecting these 2 avenues, is brought to life at night by TERRA MIDI LED and SCULPLINE floodlights. Highly visible at night, the artwork helps to improve safety as drivers can easily see the roundabout from a distance.

Schréder EXEDRA, the smart lighting system

All of the street lights are controlled and managed by the Schréder EXEDRA central management system. This modern platform provides the necessary data for effective management of the lighting system and allows lighting levels to be adapted to the various events organised by the city, such as the Seafood Festival, city festivities or a concert, from any mobile device.

The new smart lighting has created a safe and enjoyable environment for the community and tourists while helping the city to reduce its energy consumption and carbon footprint.
