John Orbansen Park
Stylish VALINTA GROOVE luminaires enhance safety and public art in this popular park, creating a vibrant public space
The coastal suburb of Coolangatta in the City of Gold Coast is will known for its long sandy beaches and great surf. In July 2023, the City launched a regeneration project for John Orbansen Park to improve the area’s accessibility, safety and vibrancy, while celebrating Coolangatta’s beach culture.
Enhanced safety and vibrancy
As part of the regeneration plan, the local authorities wanted to upgrade the lighting to improve safety in the park after dark and enhance the overall vibrancy of the area at night. As part of the initiative, the city council has commissioned public art, such as murals and sculptures, from emerging Gold Coast artists to brighten up the night-time cityscape and enhance its character.
Urban lighting for the community and art
The new lighting had to respect the city’s lighting masterplan, adopted in 2016, which aims to design spaces for people with energy-efficient technology that is sensitive to the environment.
We were commissioned to deliver a customised lighting solution for this space. Working closely with the City of Gold Coast’s Parks Major Projects Infrastructure Team, we proposed strategically positioned VALINTA GROOVE luminaires on tall poles to light the area and highlight the public art.
A total of 9 VALINTA GROOVE luminaires were installed. They provide the required lighting levels with high uniformity and minimal light pollution to meet the Australian/New Zealand Standard ASNZS1158:3.1:2020, Table 2.3 (PA2 subcategory).
A long lasting and sustainable solution
Thanks to its low energy consumption and robust design, the VALINTA GROOVE will ensure a high-performing solution for many years to come. And when the city decides, it can be easily dismantled and recycled for a circular economy.
