TWICE THE QUALITY, HALF THE COST
KLIA was another historic milestone project for Straits Design. KLIA was the first to introduce low level lighting for all approach roads to the Main Terminal Building (MTB) and all airside service roads. Some 15, 000 light fittings were used for all roads approaching, surrounding and within the airport, the whole apron area as well as for the baggage handling tunnel.
A twin-arc two lamp floodlight system for apron lighting was introduced. The two lamp floodlight allows for dimming during off peak hours without affecting the quality of the lighting distribution yet also meeting emergency lighting needs. As this system allows the use of only one type of fitting (compared to the conventional two type fitting), it reduces energy consumption and cuts down on stock. The lighting enhancement of the MTB helped to bring out the beautiful features of the MTB.
